As winter deepened across Afghanistan, the hardships faced by vulnerable families became more acute. The Afghanistan Future Development (AFD) organization has remained committed to supporting those most in need—families affected by poverty, unemployment, and restricted access to education, especially women and children.
Rasool* is one of many fathers in Afghanistan struggling to make ends meet. Due to the severe lack of employment opportunities, he is unable to find stable work. To provide for his family, he sells books on a street corner, often battling the cold and uncertainty of each day. Despite his challenges, Rasool understands the value of education and insists on sending his children to school, believing it to be the key to a better future.
His 13-year-old daughter, Khadija*, is among the many girls who have been denied formal access to education due to current restrictions. Refusing to give up, she continues to attend a community-run school for street children. In addition to her studies, she works alongside her father, cooking and selling bolani—a traditional Afghanistan's stuffed flatbread—to contribute to the family’s income.
This winter, Action for Development provided Khadija and her family with critical winter assistance. They received bags of coal for heating, new clothes and a pair of shoes for Eid, and a 10-kilogram sack of rice to help sustain them through the season. These seemingly small items made a significant difference in helping the family endure the harsh weather and maintain their dignity.
Khadija is a bright and determined young girl. She dreams of becoming a teacher and is committed to her education. “Education is important but we are in need of basics in order to grow and become an adult,” she says. “I want to contribute to my country and I can stand on my own feet in the future.” Her perseverance, in the face of adversity, symbolizes the resilience of countless Afghan children who still believe in hope and opportunity.
Through your generous support, Action for Development is reaching the most vulnerable families in Afghanistan—providing warmth, food, and educational opportunities during the most difficult months of the year. Every donation you make goes directly to those who need it most.
Thank you for standing with us. Please continue to support Action for Development and help us bring light and dignity to families across Afghanistan.
