Challenge

The Chillon River presents different problems along its 126 kilometers, the most recent being: The spill of 34 tons of zinc caused by the overturning of a Volcan mining company truck, specifically in the town center of Cullhuay, district of Huaros, Canta, which occurred last June 13, 2022 and Likewise, the impact caused by the oil spill near the mouth of the river in January 2022 is unknown. After learning of these two contaminating events, we had the opportunity to contact residents.

Solution

This experience will contribute to the construction of environmental citizenship, as well as the strengthening of creativity, research and innovation, by knowing how to interpret and rationally use the local environmental offer. The river is the generator of life, but at first glance there is no evidence of a reciprocal relationship on the part of the people who live around it, due to the level of neglect and contamination that we have observed in several sections of the river

Long-Term Impact

The reason for seeking to work with schools is the opportunity to reinforce from school a more experiential education, of practical utility and that makes visible the ability to actively relate to nature (naturalist intelligence) from childhood.
