PROJECT REPORT FINAL 58143
WITH MY SCHOOL, I DISCOVER THE CHILLON RIVER
BACKGROUND
The pollution that has been occurring for several years in the Chillon River is mainly due to the discharge of domestic and industrial wastewater, solid waste, agricultural activities, pig farms, informal foundries and other companies, which dump their waste on the banks of the river without complying with established environmental standards. In this sense, the lack of interest of various actors and the lack of initiative to improve water quality, as well as the need for basic sanitation, have been noted. In addition, the riparians fail to comply with environmental regulations, causing the river to deteriorate. However, the scenic beauty of this ecosystem is magnificent, and the basin offers a series of ecosystem services that could promote sustainable income-generating activities, so it is necessary to strengthen environmental management programmes for water resources, water quality, solid waste, environmental education and sanitation of the population. In addition, environmental citizenship must be built in educational institutions in order to initiate the establishment of some corrective measures with primary and secondary school students and to initiate, through creativity, innovation and research, the implementation of actions that benefit the recovery of the waters of the Chillon River.
