Some of the Elderly Community Members We Support
Some of the Elderly Community Members We Support

It's been a busy fall for The Angel Projects Uganda, and what's been so exciting to watch is the increased involvement of the younger generation as they learn to care for their community members and their environment.  The children and youth of Kashija have been enthusiastically helping with many of our current projects:

1. The Greenhouse Project -- The harvest has been plentiful this fall, and much of the produce from the greenhouse has been used to supplement the diet of the elderly members of the community.  Better nutrition means better overall health.  It has been very exciting to see the interest that the greenhouse has generated in the community, especially among the younger members.  Several local youth have devoted their time to helping with the care of the plants, the harvest of the produce, and the delivery of the vegetables to the elderly community members' homes.  The knowledge that these youth are gaining will enable them to spread healthy habits throughout the area.

2. The Elderly Project -- Our Saving Grace team (all teenage girls) have been very busy checking up on the elderly members of the community and providing them with basic necessities, such as bedding, food, and over-the-counter medication.  We've also enlisted the help of several young men to help with the construction of new roofs for some of the older commuity members' homes.  It's a beautiful thing to witness the love and care of these youth for their elders.

3. The Ecobricks Project -- This is our newest project, and the whole community is working hard to turn their trash into building materials.  The Angel Projects Uganda staff has busily been teaching workshops on how to create ecobricks out of plastic bottles and other garbage.  These ecobricks will then be used to build benches for the local soccer field as well as a fence for The Angel Projects of Uganda property.  Community members of all ages have pitched in to collect and sort garbage and construct the ecobricks.  This project is bringing people together as they learn to care for their environment.  The children have been especially involved in the project, which has been a wonderful use of their time while the local schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are so encouraged by the participation we've seen from the children and youth of the local area.  We know that as they learn to care about and for the elderly members of their community as well as their environment, they are evolving into leaders and game changers.  The future looks bright in Uganda!
