Summary

The aim of this Reusable Sanitary Project is to reduce the rate of absenteeism and dropout in secondary schools by adressing the menstrual health challenges of the girl child in rural communities of Manicaland. The girl child will have more opportunities to compete in school whist meeting the menstural cycle times with dignity. The objective of the Project is to empower young girls through education and access to sanitary wear to reach their full potential, we target to assist 1,000 rural girls

Challenge

Imagine some poor rural girls missing school each month due to poverty resulting in them not getting any money to buy the usual disposal reusable pads, worsened by the cyclone idai that ravaged the area at the same time causing untold suffering that the girl child has during her menstrual cycle. Education is a basic need that each child should enjoy, but girls seem to suffer simply because of their womanhood, with the poor children missing school during their menstrual cycle days. We can help!

Solution

The grant for the reusable sanitary pads project will be a direct answer to maintaining girls in school. The local women are trained to use reusable sanitary pads, itself a form of livelihood for the women since they can also make them for sale independent of us, the women are taught basic sewing of sanitary pads which is a useful skill which they can use for ages

Long-Term Impact

improper disposal of sanitary products such as wrapping them in plastic bags also fills up landfills and takes years to biodegrade. Some sanitary products are also flushed down the toilet which could mean that disposable pads and tampons can end up in our seas and washed up on our beaches. This has detrimental effects for humans, the wildlife and our habitats such as our land and oceans and this makes the reusable sanitary pads a long-term, safe alternative, apart from their assisting the need
