HDIF for over a dozen years has been conceptualizing, prototyping, producing, and marketing products made by vulnerable women in Armenia. Many of these use the Armenian alphabet and and symbols. It is important to us to keep Armenian traditions alive and to spread the richness of the ancient Armenian culture.
This little cutie that nestles so nicely in the palm of a hand is a woman from Sebastia. She is wearing a traditional 'taraz' costume. Each taraz represents a different traditionally Armenian region. By looking at the taraz, it is known what region she comes from. Also the men have taraz, but the women are much more colorful. Each of these Armenian women is beautiful!
HDIF produces a wide range of taraz inspired products, including keytags, Christmas ornaments, finger puppets, magnets and more. These products provide much needed income to a gaggle of women in the town of Talin, quite close to the Turkish border.
We in HDIF exist to provide gainful employment to those who need it, in order to fulfill our mantra of 'roof over the head, food on the table, education for the kids. This product is a fine example of this in action!
Proud to keep those crochet hooks going in Talin!
