3 plots were established in which the growth of the mangrove plants that have been planted will be measured, these have an area of 10 m2 and were marked with a yellow ribbon, within these each mangrove seedling was identified with plastic marks which contain a code.
Each seedling will be observed for a year, making height measurements every two months, so it will be described if it is affected by parasites, diseases or weeds, the flood level of each plot will also be measured and salinity measurements of both surface waters will be taken. close to these as well as the salinity of the soil. The first measurements were made in the month of February while the second measurement was made in the month of April, estimating averages the mangrove seedlings have grown around 35 cm since the month of February, with the white mangrove being the species with the highest growth. fast.
Camera traps will also be placed to observe the species of fauna that use these sites. During these monitoring, photographs of the same sites will be taken to observe how the site changes over time, as well as aerial shots which will give us a general perspective. how the mangrove forest in the sector is recovering.
During this project, 20,000 seedlings of the four mangrove species will be produced, mostly white and red mangrove since it is the most abundant in our restoration sites. Up to now, 5,000 seedlings have been produced: 3,000 red mangrove 1,500 white mangrove and 500 of black mangrove.
At this time, the work is concentrating on filling bags with soil for sowing red mangrove seeds and making terraces for white and black mangroves, since the species are in flowering season.
