Women Tech it Up is a collaborative initiative that provides financial and strategic support for programs led by young women tech leaders. This collaboration effectively unites 15+ initiatives dedicated to empowering women in tech, working together to address gender gaps and shared goals. Each initiative then undertakes one or more projects funded and guided by WLiT focused on networking, skill-building, advocacy, awareness, and mentorship for young girls or women.
According to the World Bank Gender Statistics Portal 2022, the labor force participation rate for men and women in Nepal was 53.1% and 28.6% respectively. As per the Nepal Labor Force Survey, just 13% of Nepali women hold management roles. Even though there are 30+ coalitions in Nepal working in this field, there is a lack of cooperation, knowledge sharing, and networking among them, which has shown to have less penetration in rural areas, while people in urban areas have more opportunities.
Women Tech it Up (WTiU) is an initiative that fosters networking, skill development, and mentoring opportunities in order to support women in leadership positions. The impact of each group's work will be amplified through assisted funding, collaboration with experienced leaders, and strategic support for women-led projects. This will also assist in combating the availability of resources & opportunities and under-representation of women and help establish a more inclusive tech sector in Nepal.
Empowering women in tech reduces the gender gap and inspires new leaders. WTiU aims to support over 50 initiatives reaching 6000+ students, mostly women, by 2024. This fosters inclusivity, diversity, and collaboration, leading to lasting change in policies, investments, and culture. Boosting projects by young women challenges stereotypes, builds trust and collaboration, and creates a welcoming community. Result: A tech landscape transformed with equality, diversity, and community.
