WORKING WITH DISADVANTAGED rural girls who are threatened due to lack of protection and participation in community life. The project will build resilience to the vulnerable girls, subjected to challenging traditional African views such as, 'a girl is seen as a granary of the home,' which entails that a girl should not be seen to go beyond his father' house. A view which often conflict with children' rights . The project will help stop betrothals and marriages in girls ending discrimination.
There are currently over 5000 girls in Kopa and Kabinga chief doms whose rights of protection and participation is not realized. The girl child is subjected to challenging traditional customs which often conflict with children' rights such as child marriage, betrothals involving children and house chores making their living conditions extremely difficult which perpetuate generational poverty.
The project will challenge traditional African customs to make the girl be protected and participate on issues that concern her. It will help tackle specific African issues to end child marriages, betrothals and girls being seen as objects. It will bring to light individual stories of the victims of the silent marginalized girls in a safe way and help adults listen to opinions of the girls and transform them and their communities.
To build the resilience of the girls in these communities who despite being in a vulnerable situation acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, human rights to completely wipe out their perpetuation to generational poverty. It will further challenge the communities, traditional leaders to rise out of old repressing customs which will provide better living and good societies for girls to develop.
