Moped Accident
Sadly, last week Zoénabou Savadogo, the co-operative's co-ordinator (she is the linchpin of Tigoung Nonma) suffered an accident on her moped. The wind blew her veil into the chain of the moped and her moped flipped over onto the tarmac. She suffered a blow to her hip, neck and leg. Zoénabou has been x rayed and luckily nothing is broken but the injury is painful and she is still suffering from the shock.
Land Plots
The co-operative had been looking for plots of land for the Build a Workshop project but have had to stop for the moment. They have had various offers of land at several different locations at different prices. When Zoénabou’s health improves the committee will go to see the plots to choose one and purchase it.
Sales and Fundraising
In terms of sales in the UK, we set up two sales of the artisans’ products at Rotary District meetings and one sale at my church’s advent fair prior to Christmas. In addition to this, I was given the opportunity to speak at the Rotary District Council meeting in November about the project. There were about 50 club representatives at this meeting; I believe we raised some money for the project from this and importantly, awareness has been raised about the project for the future.
Once a plot of land has been purchased, which is something tangible for donors to see, we will be able to really start fundraising again. The first idea for this is to organise another event in the summer; a coffee and cake morning is also planned.
There are still many fundraising opportunities- for example I have organised a meeting with the Head of Engagement at Humanitarian Charity Medair to brainstorm for the project. He has a lot of experience in fundraising so I’m hoping he will be able to help.
