Evening the odds for children with cancer

The shock, pain and fear a family feels when their child is diagnosed with cancer is unimaginable. Then add out-of-pocket costs like drugs and travel expenses, and families soon find it hard to cope.

As a result, many end up with mounting debts, pushing them further into poverty. With little financial, practical, or emotional support available, it is easy to see why so many children do not complete their treatment.

We have been able to reach over 40,000 children and families affected by childhood cancer around the world since 2007. However, our ability to financially support children with cancer and their families is now being affected by the increase in global inflation, and the cost of living crisis.

With your support we can help children with cancer and their families by funding transportation, diagnosis, medicines, care, and accommodation close to hospital. This will ensure children will not die unnecessarily due to a lack of diagnosis and can access and remain in treatment.

With your support we are changing the lives of children like Cynthia.

Cynthia was diagnosed with Wilm's tumour when she was just six years old. Following the clinic visit, Cynthia was admitted to Korle-BuTeaching Hospital for treatment. Her siblings had to drop out of school because there was no money for her treatment.

"World Child Cancer provided us with the necessary drug and diagnostic support as well as accommodation and transport whenever we came to the hospital for treatment. Without the support I received, I would not be able to provide her with the necessary treatment." - Maria -Cynthia's Mother

The hardest thing for me was taking chemotherapy drugs because I would vomit and wouldn't be able to eat. At home I enjoy playing with my siblings. I would like to be a doctor when I grow up."

Cynthia on how cancer impacted her life.
