As a difficult year comes to an end, we look back and reflect on what we have been able to accomplish in providing help to Utila, thanks to the ongoing support of our donors. We're looking to end the year on a positive note, and this month we've already distributed school supplies, baseball equipment, additional medical supplies (both for people and animals!), PPE and disinfecting supplies - and we have more distributions of food and more still going out this coming week.
2020 has been a difficult year. The small island of Utila, Honduras in the Caribbean, has experienced problems beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 15th, Honduras's border closed a 6-month period, preventing travel to the island for both residents and visitors alike. The impact of COVID-19 has been more than just the direct health impact of the coronavirus. It's ravaged the tourism-based economy, which left a large portion of the population unable to afford basic necessities.
Funds donated will be used across all of Support Utila's current initiatives, including Covid-19 treatment and prevention, repairs from Tropical Storm / Hurricane Eta, education, animal welfare and food relief. We will be doing another food distribution throughout Utila prior to the holiday, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the end to what has been a challenging year.
This project will help ensure health and medical resources to all on Utila, repairs to still flooded areas, increased access to education, and our continued goal of improving the lives for the people and animals of Utila.
