The youth-led FRED campaign are running a new project in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, focusing on mental health issues caused by the impact of the virus and self-isolation. Our youth-led FRED campaign has received several emails and calls from young people who have developed new mental health issues or whose current ones have worsened due to the pandemic. We aim to overcome these problems and support the mental health of young people during the pandemic.
The youth-led FRED campaign are running a new project in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, focusing on mental health issues caused by the impact of the virus and self-isolation. As the virus epidemic is impacting on those who are the poorest, volunteering and social action by young people is in need. Young people want to have a voice!
We aim to overcome these problems and to support vulnerable young people through the COVID-19 pandemic, through offering 1) dedicated help line that is open from 10am-10pm every day giving mental health support and practical advice 2) a secure chat room where young people can share their concerns, build relationships and stop feeling lonely. 3) Provide support with food and PPE.
We anticipate multiple outcomes for the participants of the project. These include, better mental health outcomes, fostering social cohesion among the users. This also includes the development of new skills for the young volunteers who will run and manage the project. More importantly, the social action will help local communities in the long term building much needed trust and safe relationships.
