This project will provide a mental health resilience programs for up to 40 young people that care for their Mum, Dad, Brother or sister with a medical condition or disability. These young people miss out on their teenage years to care for their loved one. Because of the extreme stress involved with caring, 2 out of 3 teens have severe mental health issues such as anxiety, social isolation, bullying, depression; often leading to suicide. The reality right now is that there are 420,000 Young Carers in Australia under 24 and many people have no idea they exist Documented Facts are that; 50% living in circumstances of disadvantage 60% unemployed 40% don't finish high school 2 out of 3 have a mental illness such as major anxiety disorders, isolation issues, and severe depression, Bullying; LEADING TO SUICIDE Research has proven that Young carers are amongst the most marginalised groups in the Australian community
The purpose of TCFA is to provide Mental-Health-Resilience programs to Young-Carers before they have a mental health crisis or breakdown due to their challenging situation. Our program objective is to support the Young-Carers physical, emotional and mental health which allows them to continue their caring responsibilities, through our life-changing mental-health-resilience-programs. By supporting these young people we will build capacity, increase mental health resilience and prevent suicides
YoungCarers empowered and inspired/improved-health/Increased-knowledge/awareness of health/self-care that focus on building strategies for ongoing mental-resilience. Build capacity to cope with health-challenges through education Stable Mental-Health; Depression/Suicidal-thoughts/Loneliness not as prevalent Manage debilitating stress-levels with enhanced knowledge/strategies mindfulness support. Fewer/zero admissions to hospital for Young-Carers and care-recipients Engaged with other youth
