Shining a light on Climate Change

The road to rainforest adventure
The road to rainforest adventure

 Dear donors,

We hope you are all doing well, and holding up in these difficult times? One day this covid nightmare will be behind us, but the young people whose education you have supported will be taking their place as the new generation of guardians of the forest, and we’d like to send you a big shoutout and thank you for supporting them!

In our last letter we told you we were working on an online course for young environmental leaders, and today we’d like to share a few more details with you. We’re excited to be in the selection process now, and plan to get started next month. We’ll be sure to tell you how it goes!

Our goal is to deliver a dynamic course for young environmental leaders. We want to encourage, inspire and challenge young people (ages 16-29) to really dive into the issues of biodiversity and climate change, reflect on what they learn, and take concrete steps to do something about it. We're sharing some of the wonderful things they can discover in the forest if they keep their eyes open. And we'll ask them to report back to the group and that way we'll start to build up an active community of young observers, and movers and shakers.

(And, by the way, since not all of them have access to the internet, we’ll be offering cell phone credit to those in need, so that we can make the course truly inclusive.)

Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll be covering. Students will meet once a week in the Google Classroom for an intensive session together, and will be required to undertake several activities in their own communities in between classes. Subjects covered will include covid, biodiversity and the environment, personal consumption patterns, culture, social movements and political activism, forests and water, soils, and, for sure, other topics that arise along the way and are of general interest to the group.

Young people across the world are finding their voices and challenging their elders to stop talking and start acting. They’re active over a range of issues, from defending the climate, to education for girls, from protesting against gun violence to tackling authoritarian regimes.

And with your help, we’re doing our part to encourage more of them to step up to the challenge. Thank you, thank you, we couldn’t do it without you!

Talk soon, and in the meantime, much love and please take care,

Marina and the Iracambi Team

PS Before you go, may we ask a quick favor? We’re just launching a funding campaign and we’re looking for regular donors. Could you share our project link with friends, family and colleagues? We’ve got a few nice surprises up our sleeves for our new donors - and we could all use a nice surprise, right?
