Campaign closure Young indigenous women empowered by basketball.
Within the indigenous communities of Chiapas, girls and young people are relegated from the public spaces of their communities. Sports are considered an activity, mainly, for men, meanwhile home activities are for women. From Ch'ieltik, thanks to your support, we have worked so that the participation of young women starts from sport.
Through basketball we obtained a tool for them to exercise their right to leisure and recreation. More than a year after the start of the “Young indigenous women empowered by basketball” campaign, 154 girls have participated in empowerment workshops and flash tournaments (3 to 5 games each) in Chenalhó, Nuevo San Juan Chamula and San Juan Cancuc.
