Impact of the Environmental Education Program

By Olivia Perez Jimenez | Environmental Education Program Manager

Between October 2025 and January 2026, the Environmental Education Program reached 2,823 students through 78 interactive educational sessions focused on solid waste management and water conservation. These activities strengthened students’ environmental awareness and promoted responsible practices within their schools and households.

To reinforce key messages and encourage behavior change, 187 posters, 742 educational kits, and 460 stickers were distributed and installed in schools and homes, supporting the long-term adoption of environmental practices at the community level.

A youth environmental camp was held at Centro Tierra and Rancho Suelo Vivo, engaging 22 university students from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (Jalpan campus). Over two days, participants explored topics including climate disruption, biodiversity, regional environmental challenges, waste management, regenerative soil practices, and forest ecosystem services. Practical activities focused on carbon sequestration and water harvesting, strengthening participants’ capacity to contribute to climate solutions.

Community engagement was further strengthened through the creation of eight public murals and the implementation of five community waste cleanup and separation campaigns, involving 460 students and teachers. These actions improved public spaces while fostering collective responsibility and environmental stewardship.

To institutionalize climate action within the education sector, two follow-up meetings were held with 37 educational authorities, alongside a three-day in-person training residency for 32 teachers. During this process, educators developed action plans to replicate and adapt environmental education activities in their own school communities.

Finally, the seventh cohort of the online diploma course “Sustainable Development: Didactic Tools for Climate Action” will launch with the participation of 200 teachers from the Sierra Gorda region and southern Querétaro, expanding the program’s long-term impact by strengthening local educational leadership for climate action.
