Summary

Haiti's population: approximately 11 million & youth (under 25) are more than 1/2 of the population. Haiti has one of the highest levels of food insecurity in the world. The World Food Program's Haiti stats: the number of food insecure Haitians has tripled since 2016, 22 % of children are chronically malnourished and 10 % underweight. This compromises their development & leads to lifelong health issues. Generous donations can provide: 2,500 trees to 500 youth AND invaluable health education.

Challenge

Unfortunately, Haiti continues to face challenges such as food insecurity & the negative effects of climate change. UNICEF: "Good nutrition is the bedrock of child survival and development." Well-nourished youth thrive mentally & physically. Many children are not getting the nutrition they need to survive & thrive. Midwives, working closely with youth, noted their dire need to access nutritious, organically grown fruits & vegetables. Some youth often go with minimal to no food daily.

Solution

Healthy eating in childhood promotes proper growth & development and prevents various health conditions. Trees are a sustainable source of nutrition, address food insufficiency and are a way to increase family income. Midwives are in the optimal position to provide accurate & culturally appropriate education on health & nutrition to Haiti's youth. Your kind donations ensure: 500 youth & their families have nutritional food sources right in their backyards PLUS receive quality health education.

Long-Term Impact

Healthy eating helps achieve & maintain good health and reduces the risk of developing certain health conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, etc). Planting trees is an affordable, scalable and sustainable solution which aids in promoting food self-sufficiency. It reverses soil erosion & builds climate resilience. Organically grown nutritious fruits & vegetables are full of vitamins & minerals and maintain health to enhance children's ability to learn.
