The targeted project areas consist of large school dropouts who are victims of many unfortunate circumstances, the very awkward situation in which these youths find themselves need immediate special attention most certainly if given an opportunity by offering them special training for jobs and some skills to enable them to become self-reliant. The expected result is that these youths will be of service to the nation and the problem of unemployment and poverty will be greatly curbed.
Various estimates indicate that unemployment is the highest among youth especially between the ages of 18 and 35 across Sierra Leone, especially in the rural community of Waterloo. The poverty profile affirms that young adults - especially between the ages of 15 and 24 are among the poorest of the poor. Many of them are illiterate, school dropouts, unemployed and idle, living in deplorable conditions in rural communities like Waterloo. AID seeks to address these challenges with utmost urgency.
This project will solve these problems by promoting the socio-economic status of youths through capacity building for job opportunities and livelihood sustainability.
We will support 50 youths in small scale enterprise development and also provide them with star-up grants and also train 100 youths in marketable vocational skills and thus provide start-up kits.
