June Youths Farming Project Report

By Mercy Chimdi Egbuchulam | Project Leader

TO: Our LMF Team of Heroes,

It is my pleasure to bring you another progress report on our youths' farming project for this quarter, June 2026.

The Ubuntu farm trainees strive to maintain the entire farm through regular weeding and raking to rid the farm of weeds that sprout and compete with the food crops.

The farm trainees are taught to apply organic manure and natural insect repellents and to use pesticides sparingly, only in the event of serious pest attacks or invasions.

Barring any unforeseen conditions or situations, the farm trainees are working very hard to record a bumper harvest of vegetables and fruits all year round to serve the community's food needs.

Preparatory to this planting season, Demonstration Farm (B1) was properly tilled, with deliberate stump removal through the students’ determination and hard work.

Additional wooden boards were brought to the farm to reinforce the perimeter fence for the security of farm products.

They prepared four long cultivation beds for the planting of pretreated cucumber seeds (African Giant variety) procured from a reputable seed company, Kuch.

The harvest is encouraging, and preparation for the second planting is in its final stages. They plan to clear and weed out the old, withered, and discolored leaves, as well as the spoiled fruits.

The pepper section of the farm has started growing and producing well. The variety they planted is bell pepper, which is spicier and larger. They made additional beds earlier this month to accommodate more seedlings and enable us to produce a better harvest than the preceding year.

The Ugu (fluted pumpkin) part of the farm is being staked with long branches, and with permission from community leaders, Icheku is cut and brought in from traditional communal land (main village farmland). The villagers farm there every five years.

Recap

Following the new modified approach in response to the demand and needs of the program, the ten newly trained youth farmers from the 2025 cohort who returned were assigned individual small portions of LMF-leased farmland for their own practical experience. They are to use the techniques and strategies they learned in the program to create and grow a mini vegetable farm of their choice. Each of these youth farmers was paired with a volunteer who is a new trainee to assist them.

The goal is to give the new farmers an opportunity to practice what they learned, as well as coach the new volunteers on the concepts they have learned.

The 10 volunteers (the newcomers of the 2026 cohort) and their hands-on coaches (the ten new farmers) are following the program as prescribed and scheduled, and are routinely receiving supervision from the Master Coach to ensure that they stay within guidelines, schedules, and routines, in order to keep the momentum going while they learn how to successfully grow a farm to feed themselves.

All twenty of them (10 new farmers and 10 new intake trainees) also receive a monthly stipend for upkeep throughout the duration of the program while they learn.

Our Impact

Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help our youths' farming projects so that they can sustainably feed themselves, their families, and their communities in an effort to eliminate hunger. You are our partner, and together we can achieve success. Amen!

On GlobalGiving’s Bonus Day, July 15–16, 2026 (10:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.), they will match funds, and you have the opportunity to increase the impact of your donation when you donate $100 or more during the 24 hours of the campaign to help our youths make a great impact.

Our youth depend on LMF, and we depend on you to support our fundraising efforts. YOU are why Lady Mitz Foundation continues to thrive. I am counting on all of us (LMF Team of Heroes) to donate $100 and also ask a friend to do the same. Together, we will raise the needed $5,000 so our funds will be matched, and we will also qualify to receive an additional bonus share, in Jesus' name. Amen!

During this campaign, the minimum donation is $100, and the maximum donation to be matched is $1,500 per donor.

When you donate, you don’t just feed and train youths in farming; you give them hope and a means of livelihood. I thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. God will continue to bless you. Amen!

Also, whenever possible, please consider signing up for monthly donations because, besides guaranteeing available funds year-round, new recurring donations earn a one-time 100% match after four months. LMF counts on every penny to strengthen and support our programs.

Conclusion

Donate during the campaign from Wednesday, July 15 through Thursday, July 16, 2026, to ensure funds will be matched, as GlobalGiving will only match funds during this campaign period.

If possible, donate $100 to ensure your donation will be matched.

Ask a friend to donate $100 and support our youths' farm project.

Sign up for monthly donations (GlobalGiving website minimum is $10.00).

Share the work of our youths and encourage a friend or two to support a good cause.

Once again, I thank you for your thoughtfulness, kindness, and generosity. You are part of LMF’s Team of Heroes, and our youth are forever grateful to you. Remain always blessed. Amen!

We will keep you informed about the progress of the project. If you have any comments, questions, or input, please feel free to direct them to us, and we will answer as best we can.
