Challenge

Recent research states that less than 3% of youth in foster care graduate from college. Why? Because in the United States, more than 23,000 youth exit foster care and are left to fend for themselves each year. This scenario - leaving foster care without achieving permanence - carries lifelong consequences. Youth who age out of foster care face are more likely to engage in risky behaviors and more likely to experience homelessness, joblessness, early parenthood and substance use.

Solution

Giving youth in foster care the chance to obtain a college education or funds for trade school gives young people the chance to build a future. It works towards building a more level playing field for youth who are starting out their adulthood without virtually anything. Comfort Cases Scholarship Program is devoted to supporting the academic success of kids in foster care.

Long-Term Impact

Comfort Cases scholarship program supports a key objective of our work: ensuring that young people exiting foster care have the relationships, resources and opportunities needed to thrive. Comfort Cases leverages resources aimed at helping youth with foster care experience make the leap from high school to college.
