As we look back at our work in 2025, we want to share several achievements across our initiatives. Servicios Legales de Puerto Rico reaffirmed its essential role in promoting access to justice for low-income individuals and communities, even amid federal budget uncertainty surrounding funding for our main provider. Despite these challenges, the organization increased closed cases by 2% compared to the previous year and significantly expanded its community outreach. By the end of the year, we had closed 21,956 cases, benefiting 55,980 people.
Our staff’s community education and outreach activities increased by 37% compared to 2024. Residents of 52 municipalities were reached through workshops, legal fairs, radio orientations, and educational efforts. Training was strengthened in critical areas such as the rights of older adults and caregivers, guardianship, durable powers of attorney, and advance directives.
To better respond to client needs, we created a specialized bankruptcy panel through the Compensated Practice Program to address the continued rise in requests for this type of service. We also expanded notarial services (powers of attorney, wills, advance directives) to support caregivers and older adults.
SLPR strengthened and expanded key collaborations that increase access to free legal services. These services and education partnerships allow us to enhance our capacity to meet the growing legal needs of the vulnerable populations we serve.
In a country where more than 37% of the population lives below the poverty level, your support fuels protection, stability, and dignity. Your contribution to SLPR multiplies access to justice for thousands of Puerto Rican families. Thank you for your support.
