A community respond than has led to ZERO DEATHS (update)

By Mary Ann Gabino | Senior VP

One year into the pandemic of COVID-19, and we’ve had ZERO DEATHS in the supported communities.

Our ZERO DEATHS strategy has led us to support 46 non-profit organizations in their quest to educate and contain the virus; and in their process of providing other essential services. Sixty-four (64), out of our 78 municipalities have been impacted with $802,966 in grants.

One of those non-profit organizations is Auditórium de Amor Kennedy Inc. -known as El Comedor de la Kennedy- which received a grant of $3,000 to provide food to children and senior adults in their nearby communities. They became essential in providing families that were impacted by the shut-down of school’s dining rooms – to many, the only source of food during a day – and the many unemployed families after lock-down took place.

As the organization survives thanks to small gifts and food donations, the support received through FCPR provided a breath to their daily worries. “This contribution arrived in a good time because since the beginning of the pandemic, the amount of food donated decreased, but we still had to fulfill our mission.”, said a report of the non-profit.

The supported organizations have reached 22,426 people; have provided over 13,739 grocery bags and boxes of nutritional supplements; and 4,309 Covid-19 tests have been being administered in coordination with private laboratories. Also, 31 organizations have become allies of the initiative expanding educative initiatives in many communities around the island.

In review, our strategy supported community health clinics (330 Centers); efforts directed to organize the community to establish geriatric health initiatives in the communities; and efforts that address the needs of homeless people and women, as well as those regarding access to housing and water, and promoting the activation of the community’s economy.

We are very thankful for the kindness of our donors. Thanks for being present during this difficult time!
