Gili Eco Trust is making significant impacts on Gili Trawangan, establishing the island's first recycling facility & processing tons of recyclable waste to minimize landfill. By partnering with FMPL, we are solving the problem of inadequate waste management while creating employment opportunities for locals and working towards a zero-waste-to-landfill island. Your contribution will directly benefit the environment, the local community, and our collective mission of achieving a sustainable island
The FMPL collect around 15 tons of waste per day. Rapid tourism with more than 2000 visitors arriving daily, brings a lot of waste. With businesses mixing waste at source, waste specialists struggle to separate once contaminated, making dump runs extremely time-consuming. The government has built an integrated waste facility HQ, planning for efficient waste processing but it needs heavy modifications before operations can start, along with educational awareness to bring attention to the problem.
Once the government grants the FMPL (Front Masyarakat Peduli Lingkungan) access to the new HQ, we will be able to move equipment from temporary shelters into one central location. We are working to modify the HQ in order for maximum operating efficiency. Experts helped with designs, whilst we are also upgrading and repairing the new machinery. The purchase of a pyrolysis machine will also mitigate the issue of unrecyclable trash, turning it into fuel to power the equipment in the facility.
Our vision? A zero-waste utopia, where refuse fuels progress. Islands, transformed. Indonesia's trailblazer! This integrated waste headquarters will open more local employment opportunities. It will also increase the efficiency of trash processing ensuring the island will remain a paradise for everyone who lives and visits here. We can increase waste processing efficiency to exceed 20 tonnes a day to account for the rapid developments and new resorts since the pandemic.
