Mandate We equip the next generation of ophthalmology professionals with high-quality clinical and surgical training, mentorship, and leadership development-along with the tools they need to succeed. Through microfinancing in the form of essential equipment, such as refractive kits or clinic tools, we help graduates establish sustainable practices in return for community service. At the same time, we expand access to affordable, comprehensive eye care, including cataract surgery, treatment for eye disease, and vision correction-especially for women and children. By addressing gender inequities in care and building sustainable systems, we help families thrive and communities break the cycle of poverty. Vision We envision a future where every person in Tanzania has access to high-quality, affordable eye care-delivered by a thriving network of locally trained ophthalmologists who are empowered with the tools, mentorship, and resources to serve their communities and end preventable blindness for good. Strategic Goals 1. Expand Surgical Training Capacity Nationwide Establish full-scale ophthalmic training programs at two additional Tanzanian medical schools by 2030, each equipped with a wet lab and staffed by faculty mentors, ensuring equitable access to advanced surgical training for future eye care leaders across the country. 2. Reach All 31 Regions with Outreach, Care & Microfinancing Support Scale outreach and training camps to all 31 Tanzanian regions by 2035, delivering cataract surgeries, screenings, and eyeglasses-reducing preventable blindness while training residents in rural settings. To support sustainable care, we'll provide microfinancing in the form of start-up equipment to graduates in exchange for service in underserved areas. 3. Close the Gender Gap in Eye Care Access Ensure 55% of patients receiving services are women by 2030 through community engagement, female-centered outreach strategies, and tracking gender equity data-addressing systemic barriers to care for women and girls, who face the highest burden of vision loss.
