Over the previous workshops, 74 scholars came together for ten days of academic tuition and six days of workshops designed to strengthen not only their academic performance, but also their confidence, character, and sense of purpose. From classroom revision to debates, mentorship and hands-on challenges, these sessions created space for scholars to learn, reflect, and prepare for the term ahead.
We introduced RKF's first-ever holiday tuition, responding to scholars' need for additional academic support during the school break. Across Mathematics, Chemistry and Kiswahili, scholars had dedicated time revisiting challenging topics, asking questions freely, and strengthening their understanding before returning to school. The response from both scholars and teachers affirmed the value of creating structured learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
Just weeks after returning to school, Emmanuel (2024 Cohort) shared that he had topped his Chemistry class, scoring 60 out of 80, with the next highest score at 48.
His response to the tuition said it all: "Thank you for organizing the tuition. Please let Teacher Ken continue teaching us Chemistry."
His words reflected more than improved academic performance; they captured the confidence that comes from understanding and feeling supported! Another scholar shared that the different approaches used during Mathematics lessons had given him the confidence to return to school ready to help his classmates.
The workshops created opportunities for scholars to grow beyond academics. Through the Cook-Out Challenge, they developed teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills as they worked through real-time challenges together. The screening of Nawi and the debates that followed pushed scholars to grapple with questions many face in their own communities: balancing family expectations with personal ambition, and considering whether education alone can break the cycle of poverty. These conversations fostered critical thinking, thoughtful discussion, and the confidence to engage respectfully with different perspectives. Reflection activities such as Letters to My Future Self, career conversations with professionals, and sessions on responsibility and accountability further encouraged scholars to look beyond examination results and focus on the people they are becoming.
As the workshops came to a close, scholars and parents gathered to celebrate academic achievement, recognise improvement, and reaffirm the shared commitment to every scholar's journey. Looking back at the workshops, it left scholars with more than stronger academic foundations. Thought-provoking discussions, meaningful questions about their futures, and the overwhelmingly positive response to the holiday tuition affirmed the value of creating spaces where young people can learn, reflect, and grow
