Every February 4, Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research (EMCR) organizes The Big Walk to commemorate World Cancer Day, raise public awareness about cancer, promote early detection, and provide free cancer screening. Our next campaign is coming up on February 4, 2027. Your donation will help fund free cancer screening for underserved Nigerians and support public awareness activities. With the event just around the corner, we urgently need your support to reach more people and save lives.
According to IARC, Cancer claimed an estimated 9.8 million lives globally in 2024, including 90,795 in Nigeria. Many Nigerians, mainly those in rural and low-income communities, cannot afford cancer screening or lack awareness of early warning signs. As a result, cancer may go undetected until treatment becomes difficult and costly. Early detection can save lives, yet thousands remain without access to screening. This project seeks to close that gap through free screening and public awareness.
Through The Big Walk on February 4, 2027, EMCR will raise public awareness about cancer, its warning signs, risk factors, and the importance of early detection. The campaign will provide free cancer screening for underserved Nigerians who cannot afford these services. Trained health professionals will offer health education, screening, counselling, and referrals for further diagnosis and treatment when needed, helping more people detect cancer early and seek timely medical care.
Early cancer detection can mean the difference between life and death. Through free screening and public awareness, this project will help more Nigerians recognize cancer warning signs, seek medical care early, and improve their chances of successful treatment. Families may avoid the emotional and financial burden of late-stage cancer diagnosis. In the long term, the campaign will encourage regular screening, reduce preventable cancer deaths, and give more Nigerians a better chance of survival.
