End of February and beginning of March the project suffered a step back due to Cyclone Freddy and the floods it caused in Machanga district. Many of the tree seedlings that were planted before, were unable to resist. Our efforts in these months were focused in replanting the affected areas.
From March to September were donated, through the GlobalGiving platform, 604 dollars (USD) equivalent to 38,173 Meticais (MZN). With this amount we are buying 264 tree seedlings.
During this period, besides planting tree seedlings, ESMABAMA's agrarian technicians in the field, have been monitoring the growth of the trees with the students and members of the community, mainly from agrarian associations.
We are sure that the diet of the students and communities is going to be reinforced in the future when the trees start to give fruit. We have planted around 400 plants of different crops such as orange, mango, lemon and pineapple trees. The planting of trees will also have a major impact on the environment and contribute to fight climate change in the region.
