Last month marked the comeback of the long-awaited Holiday Camps which took a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of the year, the team in charge of the camps worked tirelessly to ensure that the children got nothing less than what they anticipated from the camps, which offered them an opportunity to be away from Kibera for a week.
This year we were delighted to be joined by a UK team from Christ Church Woking, who spent time and shared fun with the 73 children who attended the camps. The new environment at the camp provided the children with an opportunity to engage in various activities which ranged from swimming to learning new social skills, daily adventures, and fostering new friendships. Under this year’s camp theme of ‘Trust and Obey’, the children were taught various bible lessons on obidience and being trustworthy.
The excitement portrayed by the children as the camps ended was a clear indication of the lasting memories that were to follow, memories that they would treasure for years to come. The enthusiasm, energy, and positive feedback from both children and parents underscore the importance of such opportunities, motivating us to organise more of these camps in the future as one way of transforming lives and restoring hope to the children of Kibera.
This would not have happened without your generosity towards this year’s camps. Your support enabled these children to experience memorable moments that will help them aspire for a brighter future that awaits them.
As a small way of saying thank you, we have prepared a short video that summarises the children’s experiences during this year’s August camps. Enjoy!
