He looked at the new born son in his arms. Tears flowing down his cheeks. As with the birth of his son, he lost his beloved wife. So now what?
So many questions go through his mind and no answers to these questions. First he needs to bury his wife, the family and neigbours will rally around and all will try to feed his son something. But the something is not the breastmilk his wife would have provided.
People come to mourn at his house, they shake their heads, they look at the little baby and all give their words of advice.
The hospital had adviced him to get a tin of baby formula from the pharmacy. He went and when he heard the price he felt so sad. With all the goodwill in the world he could not afford even one tin, let alone the many tins he would need for the next months. On top of his grief the sadness of not being able to provide for his newborn son weighed heavy on his shoulders. The neighbours tried cows milk and other traditional ways. But the poor father saw his baby deteriorate in front of his eyes. In despair he took his son back to the hospital where the baby was immidiatly admitted with severe malnutrition. Finally the baby got the food he needed. But the day of discharge was approaching and the father asked if he could take some milk home, but as this was special milk which was only for hospital use, he feared he would be back to where he started soon. Would his baby go back and forth to the hospital just because he couldn't provide for what he needed? The father hated himself, He hated his poverty, oh, why could he not give his son the best? This is what every parent would wish! The hospital staff saw his distress and referred him to Abraham's Oasis.
Finally he received the best for his baby, enough baby formula for his baby and training on how to care for his baby in a better way and even some clothes. He looked at his baby and smiled. Now his little boy would make it!
Thank you for your assistance which makes such an impact on the babies and their caregivers!
