In normal times, local social affairs authorities would bring babies found abandoned. Sadly there is no fuel, so are these babies simply dying? We don't know.
In our project's secure environment mothers' have given birth to their babies, these are victims of trauma. They have been encouraged to feed their babies, several have bonded despite being the result of violence. Others plan to leave the infant...
The needy babies in communities around us who were receiving baby formula from our store, cannot be accessed because of the blockade in Tigray where there is now no fuel for travel.
It is impossible to buy baby formula locally...
Karin wrote yesterday:
"We have 15 tins available and that is all. I am going to try and find 'fafa' for the 6 month old babies as there is some milk in it. If we get younger than 6 month old babies we will have resort to diluted cows milk. I know that in Mekelle there were tins of formula, price $29.00 each, we need 72 tins for one baby!"
But now with bombings they are unable to travel, besides there is no fuel...
Thank you to all who have donated, you make the difference in what we do!
