A happy ever after story....

By Catharina van den Bosch | Founder/Director

Baby girl S was referred to us by the local hospital, during the past armed conflict. A mother had delivered and disappeared, leaving the baby behind.

Usually it is our protocol to immidiatly start intensive tracing activities as we know that behind the abandonment often lies a terrible crisis, but often we can mediate and settle tha crisis situation. Unfortunately tracing is near to impossible during an armed conflict but this year we have made a start again and we finally managed to find the mother of S.

The mother immidiately admitted that she had abandoned her baby and she was also in tears when she heard that her girl was still alive. She had hated herself for what she did eventhough her little baby was a result of rape by a so called boy friend who suddenly forced himself upon her when they were fleeing their town to hide in a valley. She had not been able to get any medical care and nine months later she found herself in the hospital giving birth to her baby girl. She panicked as she was a university student, no job and no-one knew she had a baby. She decided that it would be better to run away and hope that someone would take that baby. After she did it, she greatly regretted it as she couldn't help but worry about her baby. So when Abraham's Oasis turned up and told her that her baby was well and is now a 3 year old toddler she was overjoyed. But at the same time she worried about how she was going to care for her baby. Abraham's Oasis gave her time to finish her education while she got the chance to visit her girl and built a relationship with her. Six weeks ago she finally was ready to take her child and they are both doing incredibly well. When we visited the bond was so obvious, little S kept running up to her mother calling "mommy, mommy"! They have both settled in a small room and the mother is going to start a small shop next week so she can provide everything for her. Abrham's Oasis helped her to disclose the news of having a child to her mother and she is supportive as well.

It brings us so much joy to see the precious children we care for go back to their family where they are loved and cared for.

Thank you for helping us to make this possible.
