ABCF's conservation investments focus on large, connected landscapes that enable free wildlife movement and thriving biodiversity, while significantly reducing human-wildlife conflict and ensuring communities directly benefit from conservation. Our goal is to support protected areas where people and wildlife can thrive together, through: Conservation-led partnerships and collaborations, anti-poaching intiatives, HWC mitigation measures, and supporting conservation organisations.
Africa loses about 4 million hectares of forest annually, while over 12% of wildlife species face extinction due to poaching and hunting. In communities near conservation areas, rising lion attacks on livestock threaten livelihoods and food security. These losses often drive retaliatory killings, further endangering vulnerable lion populations.
Increased investment in anti-poaching efforts will reduce illegal hunting, support the free movement of wildlife, and help restore animal populations in national parks. Human-wildlife conflict mitigation initiatives will protect community livestock while promoting conservation education and awareness, fostering long-term coexistence, and reducing retaliatory lion killings.
The long-term impact will include resilient, effectively managed ecosystems and a significant reduction in human-wildlife conflict. Communities will experience increased benefits from conservation areas, alongside stronger stewardship and engagement in protecting natural resources. Wildlife movement will improve, supporting thriving biodiversity, while large, connected conservation landscapes will ensure the sustainability and health of these ecosystems over time.
