Accra is particularly vulnerable to perennial flooding, caused by rising sea levels due to climate change and inadequate drainage systems. The Accra Dances Movement (ADM) empowers street-connected children in Accra, Ghana, to become climate change advocates through dance, drama, and poetry. This project aims to sustain the program post-success at the Global Water Dances 2023, by providing scholarships for 30 street connected Children, ensuring they can access education and healthcare.
Many children in Accra live on the streets, facing poverty, lack of education, and limited access to clean water and sanitation. Accra is particularly vulnerable to perennial flooding, caused by rising sea levels due to climate change and inadequate drainage systems. This flooding disproportionately impacts children and families in street situations: Increased health risks Loss of belongings and shelter Disrupted education and livelihoods
The ADM children are powerful advocates for climate change action. Through dance, drama and poetry performances: * They raise awareness about the impact of climate change on flooding and water security in Accra. * They inspire others to adopt sustainable practices like waste reduction and water conservation. * They empower themselves to become leaders in their communities, promoting behavioural change for a healthier future.
ADM aims for long-term impact by promoting behavioral change, community empowerment, sustainable infrastructure, education, and global inspiration, empowering street-connected children to advocate for climate action and access opportunities for a brighter future.
