Climate change has a substantial impact on forests and the way they are managed. We have to be smart and adaptive in forest protection and make those precious habitats resilient to destructive climate change.
“We have started a thorough research on forest biodiversity in South-Western Bulgaria in order to find out which plants and animals will suffer the most from the climate crisis,“ says Kostadin Valchev, a forest expert in WWF Bulgaria.
“Then we will take all necessary measures to make them resilient and to restore water supply in forests which ultimately will result in better living conditions for humans as well.”
Together with our partners we will cover the area of 7 forestries. We will create experimental gardens and grow saplings from tree species that can survive and thrive even during droughts.
Strike a pose for the satellite
For 7 years ahead pictures from the sky will help us track how climate change impacts forests. This will ensure timely response and damage control in cases of droughts, floods, or pests.
