Happy Thanks Giving Day!!
Happy Thanks Giving Day!!

Dear Friend's Namaste!

Warm Greeting from RSKS India & Thanks Giving Day!!

Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan, on the ocassion of Thanks Giving Day, greatly thanks you for your support and contribution. It is your support and help which makes educational, economical and social development of marginalised and deprived community possible. The noble work is made possible through Global Giving with the support of your valuable contribution. So, we again thank you on the behalf of all benefeciary families.

As you know that we have made a reference of "field evaluation visit" in our last GG project report and promised you to share the report of "field evaluation visit" soon. Now, the details of the report & experience prepared by Lizzie and Charlie, members of the evaluation team, is mentioned below.

Dear Donors.

My Name is Lizzie    (A week with RSKS)

In August I was fortunate enough to visit Ajmer for a week and see the work of RSKS first hand. This was part of Global Giving’s Field Evaluation programme which involves visiting a variety of GGUK partners to carry out an evaluation of their work and write up a report. The intention was to strengthen the connection between Global Giving and our partners and to raise awareness to help expand their UK donor-base. On the counter side it also helps donors to give to smaller NGOs with confidence.

The work I saw with RSKS was incredible; they are a unique and dedicated organization driven by the need they observe in their local community. I was particularly impressed by their Stop Violence Against Women programme. Rajasthan suffers from high levels of female violence; just in this state alone three women are killed over a dowry dispute every 48 hours, 10 women are raped every 24 hours and 27,933 cases of female violence are registered yearly with the police. Instead of shying away at the enormity of the task they face, RSKS remain unfazed and are tackling the problem head on. They provide legal assistance to victims, raise consciousness of the problem in rural villages and teach women about their rights in legal awareness camps. I was even lucky enough to see a puppet show run by RSKS for local school girls to heighten awareness of gender based violence and make it clear that it is not an accepted and inevitable fact of society.

The female empowerment programmes were also fascinating to see. RSKS deliver highly professional livelihood training for women to teach them skills they can use to generate their own income. RSKS consult each area to find out which skills would be the most valuable and which the women want to learn. Once training centers are established the women come every day for rigorous teaching over a period of several months. Courses include tailoring, handicraft and beautician training. These practical skills are taught in tandem with business skills and then the women are offered loans on easier terms on completion of their training so they can establish their own businesses. I met so many enthusiastic women who were enjoying learning a useful skill.

My favorite site visit was to the school run by RSKS to educate illiterate woman. They cater for a broad range of women who have missed out on a basic education. All the women have busy family lives and many household jobs to do so the school can only meet for a few hours each day. Despite this they have helped women get their school certificates. This is a requirement to stand for the position of Saupaunch or village leader. One of the first women to enrol in the RSKS school passed her exams and has now been elected as the village head. This is real women’s empowerment in action.

I had an amazing week with RSKS and they made me so welcome. They showed us the amazing surrounding area, we visited the holy city of Pushkar, had a wonderful early morning trek in the nearby mountains and were welcomed into their home for delicious food. We were incredibly lucky to be in Ajmer during Krishna Janmashtami, a celebration for Lord Krishna’s birthday. The streets were decorated, colourful lights were everywhere, children dressed up as Krishna and Radha, and we danced and celebrated with the RSKS team. It was a terrific week and RSKS have a massive impact on their local community, listen to their specific needs and wholeheartedly engage themselves in seeking to overthrow the injustice they witness every day.
