Eco-Friendly Birdhouses Bring Peace.....

By Team | RSKS India

Dear Esteemed Donor, Namaste!

We’re proud to work with RSKS India, empowering marginalized communities with transparency and impact. Here’s one inspiring story of change we’re thrilled to share with you.

A Story of GIRDHARILAL.........!!

My name is Girdharilal (Name Changed), and I am 37 years old. I have been serving as a policeman for many years now. When I first joined the force, one of the things I loved most about this city was the abundance of sparrows. Their chirping filled the air with a kind of music that made the city feel alive. But over the years, as the city grew and more concrete buildings sprang up, the sparrows seemed to disappear. The bustling city that once echoed with their cheerful songs became quieter, and it felt like something precious was lost.

As the concrete walls grew taller, the greenery shrank, and so did the spaces where sparrows used to nest. I remember noticing the change gradually—fewer and fewer sparrows flying around, fewer nests hidden in the nooks and crannies of the old buildings. It saddened me because those little birds were such an integral part of the city’s charm. It wasn’t just me who noticed; many of my colleagues at the police station also missed the presence of the sparrows.

We talked about it sometimes, reminiscing about the days when the birds were everywhere. But we never thought there was anything we could do about it. After all, we were policemen, not environmentalists. Our job was to maintain law and order, not to bring back the sparrows. Still, the absence of those birds felt like a reminder of how much our city had changed, and not entirely for the better. Then, something wonderful happened. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) approached our police station with a unique initiative. They wanted to install eco-friendly sparrow birdhouses, grain feeders, and water feeders around the station. When I heard about this, I was thrilled. It felt like a chance to bring back a little bit of the old Ajmer that I loved so much.

The RSKS team came to our station with the birdhouses and feeders. They were simple but beautifully made, designed to provide shelter, food, and water for the sparrows. I watched as they carefully installed them around the station—on the trees, near the boundary walls, and in the little garden area we have. They also took the time to explain how these birdhouses and feeders work, how they would help the sparrows find a safe place to nest and easy access to food and water. At first, we didn’t see any immediate results. The sparrows didn’t come right away, but I knew it would take time. We made sure the feeders were always stocked with grains and water, hoping that the birds would eventually notice. And then, slowly but surely, they did.

I remember the first time I saw a sparrow checking out one of the birdhouses. It was a small moment, but it filled me with so much joy. Soon, more sparrows started visiting. They found the grain feeders, drank from the water feeders, and began nesting in the birdhouses. Within a few weeks, the air around our police station was filled with the sound of chirping again. It was incredible to see how quickly the sparrows made the birdhouses their home. Now, every morning when I arrive at the station, I hear their chirruping. It’s like the city has come alive again, at least in this little corner of Ajmer. The presence of these birds has brought a sense of peace and happiness to our station. Even my colleagues have noticed the change. There’s something about hearing those sparrows that lifts everyone’s spirits, reminding us that we’re not just part of a concrete jungle but a living, breathing environment. I am deeply grateful to RSKS India for bringing this initiative to our police station.
