Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund

Thank you for your generous donation to the Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund. Your donation is making a difference, providing communities impacted by the October earthquakes with necessary supplies, shelter, and medical and mental health support, as well as livelihoods and reconstruction support for a sustained recovery.

With your support, GlobalGiving has made eight emergency grants to five high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis in Afghanistan.

Amid the tragedy caused by the earthquakes in Afghanistan, vetted GlobalGiving nonprofit partners are bringing hope. Here is a description of the critical work your donation is supporting: 

• Action for Development is an Afghanistan-based organization that provides vital health and education services in Afghanistan to the most marginalized and vulnerable individuals through community participation and empowerment. Your donation is actively supporting the organization’s ongoing efforts to supply medical kits, hygiene kits, and food and drinking water, and provide emergency health care through mobile medical visits.

• AfghanAid is a nonprofit organization working in the region of Herat to “build basic services, improve livelihoods, strengthen the rights of women and children, help communities protect against natural disasters and climate change, and respond to humanitarian emergencies." Your donation has helped to provide more than 170 households with three months of emergency cash support, enabling them to meet their basic needs and begin to rebuild their lives.

• Aid Afghanistan for Education is a nonprofit organization focused on facilitating access to education for children in Afghanistan and interrupting the cycle of poverty creating barriers to improved livelihoods. The organization is providing emergency aid to affected communities in Herat by distributing food, water, clothing, and winter preparation kits, as well as cash grants to individuals and families. Aid Afghanistan for Education is also working diligently to provide health care and psychological support to the communities impacted by the earthquakes.

• Islamic Relief is a nonprofit organization with extensive experience in the Middle East and North Africa region. Your donation is helping its teams distribute food, water, sanitation, hygiene, and emergency supplies, in addition to cash assistance to support impacted communities in response to the earthquakes. Islamic Relief teams in the region are providing mental health support and counseling. Providing shelter, medical treatment, and other flexible forms of emergency support in affected communities is also part of Islamic Relief’s efforts to deliver aid through a culturally competent and regionally experienced lens. 

• Afghanistan-Pakistan Women’s Economic Empowerment (APWEE) is a nonprofit organization that provides relief and economic opportunities to women facing economic and social barriers in Afghanistan and Pakistan regardless of religion, political affiliation, race, or ethnicity. Your donation will allow APWEE to continue supplying communities impacted by the earthquakes with emergency food assistance, winter survival kits, home improvement grants, startup small business grants, job support, and income for women facing hardships. APWEE also offers first aid and CPR training, self-defense programs, and STEM scholarships for students. In addition, the organization has been providing tents, clothing, and winterization kits to communities impacted by the earthquake in Herat.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund bolsters community-led relief and recovery, and it means that organizations like these and the communities they serve get the critical resources they need to rebuild after the devastating earthquakes in Afghanistan.
