Delase and Kate are two sisters who were rescued from trafficking in the Volta Region (Ghana) in 2005. Following their rescue, thanks to private donations through the United Sates Association for International Migration (USAIM), they were reintegrated into the New Bakpa community with their parents, and were both enrolled in school.
After completing Senior High School (SHS), Delase moved to Sogakope (South Tongu district), and is now enrolled in a private school. She recently wrote her mathematics and English language exams, and is studying hard to get good grades, which will enable her to continue her education at University. Delase’s dream is to become a teacher. While she waits for the results of the exams, she works in a clothing shop as a shop assistant. This job will also enable her to pay for part of her tuition fees.
After completing SHS, Kate, Delase’s sister, currently lives with a family member in Accra. Kate wants to become a hairdresser, and very recently began hairdressing school. After three years, she hopes to set up her own hairdressing salon.
During the reintegration period, Delase and Kate, as well as their family, received counselling and guidance to ensure that they take full advantage of the support received and to encourage them to become economically independent in the future. The two sisters were also encouraged to pursue their career aspirations and, thanks to the generous contribution of many private donors such as you, they can now look forward to a bright future.
