Dear Friends and Supporters,
Greetings from BASS! We’re excited to update you on our daily meal program for elderly people in Guntur from September to December 2024.
Thanks to your continued support over the past three years, we've been able to keep our program running strong. We are immensely grateful for your help!
This project provides daily meals to 80 vulnerable elderly people at two centres in Guntur. These centres have been successfully operating, with the selected elderly people gathering daily at 10 AM to enjoy each other’s company and share meals that bring them joy.
We started this program during the COVID-19 lockdown to support seniors with challenging life stories, and it has continued to meet their needs. It’s been a place of comfort and community for them, helping to alleviate loneliness and poor health. The elderly are very happy to gather at the centre, meet others, and joyfully share their lives.
Additionally, we have been providing medical check-ups during the past months and identified some very sick individuals. Fortunately, many of them have recovered and are healthy, thanks to the sufficient nutritional meals.
Each centre is operated by one cook-cum-caregiver and a helper. Some of the elderly also joyfully participate in cooking from time to time.
Good news: We are planning to start a third centre in Guntur for 20 people in January 2025, as we have identified many vulnerable elderly facing difficulty in accessing sufficient food at their homes.
However, we are currently facing significant challenges. We've only received USD 68 over the past four months, which isn’t enough to cover the rising food costs, cook and helper salaries, and rents. We need at least USD 500 per month to keep one centre open for 50 seniors.
We humbly request your support to help the aged people continue receiving daily meals at our two centres. Any donation or monthly pledge can make a huge difference for these seniors.
Thank you for your ongoing kindness and generosity.
