April 2025 Project Update

By Jamie Cross | Senior Emergency Programs Manager

As of April 2025, more than 1 million internally displaced persons have returned to their homes and more than 430,000 Syrian refugees have crossed back into Syria. Support for Syrians returning to their homes is crucial to re-establishing communities and ensuring that those who return do not have to leave again. Simultaneously, it is important to retain support for IDPs that as of now have not had the opportunity to return as the needs in these communities is extremely high.

GlobalMedic has continued our response supporting Syrians in need, sending our 61st sea container of aid earlier this year. This shipment contained a mixture of Family Emergency Kits and Emergency Food Kits.

Family Emergency Kits provide reliable access to clean drinking water for up to a year. Each kit contains a water purification system that is easy to use and portable. When families lose access to clean drinking water, rates of water borne illnesses skyrocket. Not only this, but lack of proper hygiene practices can further promote the spread of illnesses. Hygiene supplies are included in each kit to ensure that families retain the ability to maintain good hygiene. Solar lights are then added to provide a sense of comfort and normalcy.

Emergency Food Kits are assembled by volunteers, and combine culturally appropriate food items. By providing families with options, they are able to decide which nutritious pantry staple fits their family's dietary preferences best. These pantry staples include rice, green lentils and chickpeas. With millions of families across Syria facing severe food insecurity, distributing shelf-stable food items is crucial.

It is critical to keep aid flowing into Syria. Both kits provide families affected by conflict with simple, effective solutions.

Please donate today to help us send more aid to those affected by this ongoing crisis in Syria!
