In Nigeria, asthma affects between 14% and 18% of the population. Many students struggle with the condition, made worse by smog, dust, and poor air quality in classrooms. Inhaler use is high, but most families can't afford to keep buying them regularly. This project will provide 500 portable air filters to 500 students in public schools, helping them breathe easier, reduce inhaler use, and stay healthy enough to keep learning. Cleaner air means fewer hospital visits and more days in school.
Asthma is a growing health issue in Nigeria, affecting up to 18% of the population. Many public school students with asthma are exposed to smog, dust, and poor air quality in classrooms, which makes their condition worse. Inhalers are expensive, and most families cannot afford to buy them regularly. Some students have collapsed during lectures or on their way to school, leading to public embarrassment and fear. Without clean air, these children struggle to focus, and face serious health risks
This project will provide 500 portable air filters to students with asthma in public schools. These filters will help reduce indoor air pollution, allowing students to breathe better during school hours and avoid frequent asthma attacks. With cleaner air, they'll rely less on inhalers, miss fewer classes, and feel safer and more confident in school. Each student will be able to carry their filter to class, school assemblies, or any other place where the air may trigger their symptoms.
By helping students manage asthma with clean air instead of just relying on inhalers, this project can reduce school absences, hospital visits, and long-term health problems complications. As the filters are seen in use, other students and families who can afford them may choose to buy their own. Many people don't know that air filters can help prevent asthma attacks-they still depend only on inhalers. This project will also help raise awareness and give families another way to manage asthma.
