Cyclone Freddy made landfall, in southern Africa, for the second time in a month, causing serious damage across Malawi, Madagascar, and Mozambique. Hundreds have been killed or injured and over 100,000 are displaced. Airlink has activated its Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Response Plan and is fulfilling requests from it's NGO partners for free of charge flights for experts in medical, WASH, food, shelter; and cargo requests for delivery of related material aid.
Over 500 people have been killed in Malawi & Mozambique and devastating infrastructure damage across impacted areas has displaced nearly 500k people. Other humanitarian concerns are: 1) The impact on the existing cholera outbreak in both Malawi and Mozambique as Cyclone Freddy is likely to further constrain access to clean water. 2) The increase in what is already an immense humanitarian need in Mozambique as 1 million people have been displaced by conflicts in the northern regions.
