42,000+ Meals & Medical Supplies Headed to Malawi

By Lauren Makely | Development Manager

Cyclone Freddy was the longest-lived tropical cyclone ever recorded, and when it hit, Malawi was already facing its worst cholera outbreak in two decades.

Over 42,000 meals and medical supplies are headed to Malawi where Airlink's Cyclone Freddy Response is ongoing.

This shipment is being moved from Dulles International Airport on behalf of Airlink's relief partner, SOS International, Inc, and they estimate 11,000 people will be reached with the supplies, primarily in the Southern Region of the country, to improve the nutrition and health care status of thousands of children, the sick, and the elderly. Approximately 5.9 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Malawi.

Thank you to our GlobalGiving donors who have helped make shipments like this possible.

Airlink plans to continue to transport critical humanitarian cargo such as hospital tents and PPE, fortified rice and soy protein meals, tarps, hygiene kits, blankets, mosquito nets and more to support our relief partners on the ground for as long as the need exists.
