In our last report we indicated that five women from the Kukuo alleged witches camp have been cleared to go home and progress have been made with three other women to get them successfully re-integrated.

Songtaba is happy to announce to its cherished donors that although the road has not been easy, we have finally  gotten these eight women peacefully re-integrated  back to their families. With the donations received for this project, Songtaba was able to support the families of these women to put up decent accomodation for the women to have a comfortable stay as well as a small grant to start a livelihood venture that is generating some income to sustain them.

Efforts are being made to get the rest of the remaining 12 women who have been profiled to be re-integrated. The process may be slow, but there has been some progress made. The re-integration team is currently visiting and holding discussions with the families of the 12 women next to be re-integrated. The team has visited each family twice and there has been positive response.

Dear readers and donors, it is also sad  to report that there has been new cases of  women accused of witch craft in some part of the northern region of Ghana and this has slow down the re-integration process. As a results some of the women are feeling reluctant to gome home for the fear of re-accusation. However, the project team is putting more efforts to get these women re-integrated by re-focusing attention toward holding community level dialogues, engagements and sensitisations and community radio programmes to educate the public on better and more civil ways of dealing with issues that seem related to witch craft.

The fight against gender based violence and for that matter re-integration of women accused of witchcraft may be a difficult task, but not an impossibility

Thank You!!!
