Our children's stories are always so inspiring, even to those of us who witness them regularly. Our latest Ama Ghar children are a bright pair - a brother and sister: Kamal, age 7 and Maya, age 5. To see them interacting with their new family is to wonder at the resilience of these children, who have been through such horrors and yet are so open to a new and loving family.
Kamal and Maya were surviving by living on a wastepile in the Kathmandu area. They were resced by workers from The Unforgotten, an organization that manages projects to aid wastepickers in developing countries and brought to us at the bequest of the Nepali social welfare system.
We are so lucky to have them! Although they were scared and shy at first, they quickly bonded with their new brothers and sisters. Our newest generation of Ama Ghar kids are mostly in the 5-10 year old range, and it's wonderful to see them create their own little group within the family as each of them takes on a new role, supported by the others.
May and Kamal love to play Legos, board games and sports - and once they are more integrated into their new home, they will begin to go to school with the others. Meanwhile, they are getting physicals, having dental work done and are being assessed by our counselors to determine their learning level and to help them with past trauma.
Enjoy these photos of Kamal and Maya learning and enjoying their daily routines and remember that without your support, their story might have a very different ending. We couldn't do what we do without you - thank you.
