Education Outreach to Help More Animals

Greetings Friends,

In this report I would like to show you some of the field work we do. Not everyone has the means to be able to get to a veterinary clinic to help their four legged friends. Our outreach program goes to them.

Through a number of colleagues as well as our staff, along with using our mobile Spay Shuttle and Hope Ambulance, Romania Animal Rescue is able to reach souls in need of veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccines, emergency care and so on. Greeting the community with compassion changes the mindset of the animal guardians, those who often are ashamed that they cannot provide veterinary care for their animals but wish to. We treat them and their animals with the respect and understanding that is so important in education.....good people need to be appreciated for what they do.

Our goal of "Establishing Animal Welfare in the Country of Romania" is a multi faceted task. And we are up to it, with your help.

We've now distributed over 25,000 educational books and brochures throughout Romania and hope to do even more. Our Veterinary Director Dr. Aurelian Stefan has appeared on numerous television interviews in Romania, stressing the need for more spays/neuters, more adoptions of the lovely Romanian animals, and the reality of the horrific public shelters.

You see, the public is generally mislead by the authorities into believing that the public shelters, funded by tax money, are good places for dogs....nothing could be further from the truth. They are complete misery for dogs...... full of diseases, starvation, and massive abuse. We are working hard to get this truth out to the public, encouraging them to adopt and sterilize their animals to stop this hideous corruption. We certainly have our work cut out for us, but with continued support we can do miracles. With now over 125,000 spays and neuters under our belt in Romania ( a place I was told was impossible to work in back in 2003 when I started RAR), miracles are already happening.

Multifaceted Education Outreach

Greetings to you! In this report I would like to share with you just some of the outreach work we do to educate the public.

Veterinary Director Dr. Aurelian Stefan was invited to speak at a seminar for students studying veterinay medicine. He shared his vision that began 20 years ago in a very backward Romania.

We began by purchasing a trailer from another charity so that we could provide veterinary care......little by little we were becoming known as the vagabond vets that were traveling throughout communities. It was a start!

20 years later:

Through much determination and support from donors, the Center of Hope Hospital is now running massive spay and neuter campaigns as well as the Homeless Animals Hospital program, Veterinary Training program, and Education Seminars. As well as a dedicated mobile team that travel throughout Romania. We are now over 121,000 spays and neuters. All this incredible work is thanks to the donations we receive from generous people like you.

Dr. A's advice to the students: "Don't forget where you started from. Only then will you know the path to follow"

Dr. Aurelian was also invited to speak at a local school about animal treatment and welfare. He shared booklets and invited the children to ask questions and share stories about their animals and the community animals. This is a huge change since our early days, when schools would not allow animal welfare education to be taught.

Romania Animal Rescue's work in Ilfov County:

Ilfov County surrounds the city of Bucharest. It is comprised of many factories and villages. The Ilfov County Animal Bureau has partnered with us to provide spays and neuters (with our donors funds) and visits to villages and yards where many animals live.

Georgeta is an elderly woman who had 11 unsterilized dogs in her yard. None of them were vaccinated or microchipped. The police visited her and were threatening to fine her for non-compliance of the law or remove her beloved dogs. (Dogs are required to be sterilized and microchipped, however this is only a punitive measure as the law does not give the impoverished guardians the ability to comply). Georgeta called Center of Hope in tears, scared that her dogs may be confiscated and taken to one of the many so-called "shelters". We stepped in to help her with all her dogs......providing transport, sterilization, microchips and vaccines. Georgeta loves her dogs but simply could not afford the high costs of these treatments the vets in her community charge.

Your donations allowed us to help Georgeta. Your donations have helped to educate so many! We are eternally grateful for your support.

But more work needs to be done.....more outreach, more seminars, more reaching rural locations to change the way Romania treats its animals.
