With your support, this project can grant 400 children from hostile family environments access to cultural and educational workshops. Due to the current social violence crisis, child abuse in Oaxaca has increased by 300%, and many children now live in risky conditions and have no safe spaces. The Art & Crafts School program promotes guidance and care for children. By participating, you can help give these children valuable experiences that will enrich their lives and broaden their horizons.
In recent years, children in the region have faced 2 crises: an earthquake and isolation due to COVID-19. The combination of both crises has led to school precariousness and worsened their living conditions in violent and drug-addicted environments. They have also lost an important stage of social interaction. This program aims to provide 400 children with access to cultural and educational workshops, helping them to overcome these challenges and enrich their lives with healthy learning spaces.
We created Arts & crafts School to provide local and migrant children with workshops in traditional arts and crafts, allowing them to learn about our territory, culture and thus build safe spaces for them where they can express themselves and feel a sense of belonging. The violence they experience generates an accumulation of vulnerabilities that leads them to risky situations, both socially and emotionally. We also create meetings where as adults we can talk about the problem and take action.
This project will provide a local educational alternative system as a resilience tool to overcome various social conflicts that may arise in our region. Through this program, children will feel proud of their heritage, will be able to acquire emotional tools and will build a community that can support them in circumstances of violence to which they are exposed in our region. Each month we are able to accompany 25 migrant children and 40 local children
