Supporting the Community through Healthcare Education

Anitah, Future Nurse and Midwife
Anitah, Future Nurse and Midwife

The Angel Projects is so pleased to announce that we're preparing to send a THIRD young lady from the community of Rubuguri to nursing school.  *Anitah* is at the top of her class in all the sciences, and she is so excited to have the opportunity to give back to her family and her community by becoming a nurse.  Anitah has had a long journey in her short 19 years on this earth.  She is the oldest of 9 children, and since her mother's death in 2018, she has taken on the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings.  It wasn't easy for Anitah to keep up with her studies while also caring for her family, but she persevered, and her hard work is paying off!

Anitah's dream is to become a medical professional to help care for women in her community.  Her mother died in childbirth, which affected Anitah very deeply, and she would like to improve reproductive health in Rubuguri.  Women in this region do not normally go to the clinic for prenatal checkups because most of the medical staff are men, and since their husbands are unable to go with them, many women feel uncomfortable being examined alone.  The women would prefer to avoid a checkup rather than be examined by a man who is not their husband.

Because of this type of thinking, many women undergo complications or lose their children during childbirth.  Some women even lose their own lives.  Anitah believes that if more women go into the medical field, they would be able to encourage other women to seek the prenatal care they and their babies so desperately need.  To that end, Anitah will pursue midwifery as well as nursing; she is going to be a huge part of the solution in her community!

Anitah will join The Angel Projects' other two nursing students in becoming trailblazers in their community.  We believe that the best way to continue to combat COVID-19 and other health issues is to train medical professionals to live and work in areas where healthcare is either lacking or inadequate.  We continue to reach for that goal one student at a time!  At the same time, we continue to support our elementary and high school students, and we provide opportunities for our secondary students to help with our Saving Grace medical project in order to gain experience and the opportunity to see if a future in the medical field is right for them.  Education today equals better health tomorrow.

Thank you to all of our supporters who make it possible for us to send students to nursing school and pharmaceutical college on scholarship.  You are having a huge impact on the health of the Rubuguri community!
