This project is a call to action, an invitation to witness the community development on multiple fonts. It stands at a critical juncture of its development to empower community as paramount for sustainability. It will rolling out the Drought relief Programme, including the Climate Smart Agriculture, food relief distribution as well as clean water provision to 2000 people affected and traumatized by prolonged dry spells and below normal rainfall lasting for years effected by climate change.
According to the 2023-2024 Namibia Livelihood Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis and Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Acute Food Insecurity Communication Report, Ohangwena region experiences prolonged dry spells and below normal rain fall lasting for years. This has subjected community to prospects of lower crop yields, impacts on livestock and ultimately reduced household food stocks compromising food security at household level that affects 177 000 people mostly children.
The project will provide food relief distribution, train community on Climate Smart Agriculture, and provide clean water to 2000 Drought-stricken people including women and children. Volunteers are on the ground to oversee and facilitate the identification of households in dire need of assistance. This should be done though transparent platforms preferably community meetings coordinated by community leaders to identify and register households in dire need of assistance.
The project will empower 800 community members mostly women to embrace modern farming practices to rise out of poverty, which will provide for their families' health and well-being. Community would also prepared for future unprecedented situations, and, food provision would avert hunger among the children.
